I've watched the visual illustration of the Daleny Sisters' Story numerous times, and upon veiwing this heart felt tribute to the " strength ", " commitment ", and " self determination ", that " we " as people of African descent in America had is incredible! It illustrated how before " we " where misled with the false pretense of " integration " we nurtured one another, and created the elements need to empower ourselves, although we where constantly challenged by " governmental powers ", and state laws.

The book, Having Our Say, and the play are one of my favorite reads!  I enjoy both every time I read them.  Sadie and Bessie are two hilarious women and the values they teach are incredible.  I have yet to watch the movie, but I can't wait!  I am going to see the play at McCarter Theatre this coming weekend and I could not be more excited.

I saw the film when it was first shown on television in 1999 and saw it again this morning and remembered how it made my heart sing.  I am the sixth daughter of a family of six daughters and I can relate to struggles, changes and the bond of sisterly love especially in the African American family and born and raised in the south  (Atlanta, GA) during the 50's.   I will be purchasing the book just to have as a keepsake and pass it on to my nieces.

I LOVE this book, and I feel proud for the sisters for living a long time through racial remarks. I wonder what they really looked like before they were dead.

I also like the fact that they describe a lot of things in it and the details are impressively clear.

My 21-year-old daughter took me to the play for Mothers' Day this year--a most powerful and touching experience for us! Thank you for carrying on the work of sharing their wisdom.

My mother recommended this book after reading it with her book group. I recommended it to my book group because it is a book that needs to be shared and discussed. I just finished, and was so moved, I got on-line to see if there was more information about these amazing women.

I probably would never have found this book on my own, but it was in a bag of books that had been given to me and I'm so grateful!  I was amazed by the history these strong, independent women had witnessed.  I found the book to be very inspiring!  I would recommend it to anyone, especially young women.  They overcame so many obstacles, and they did so with character and grace.  FANTASTIC book!!

Love the book! It's probably the best book I've ever read. The Delaney sisters are my hero's.

PS  I read this book in my reading class at Benjamin Banneker MS, no wonder they chose this book.
